Classroom Sites and Blogs

The following websites and blogs have been designed and employed by teachers at Davison School. While both options serve as an effective means of communication between home and school, you may wish to create one or the other based on your individual needs as a teacher and what your main purpose is for its use.

Both a website and a blog will allow you to:

- share links to your favourite websites.
- share pictures and videos of classroom events.
- upload classroom newsletters (or other documents) that you want to share.
- give your parents/students a way to contact you via email.
- have complete control over what is published online.

The key difference between a website and a blog is that a blog is more interactive, allowing for two-way communication. A blog, or "web log," is like an online journal. As a teacher, it is easy to post frequent messages for your students/parents, who can then type a reply back to you by posting a "comment." Each post is automatically arranged in reverse chronological order so that your most recent posts are displayed first. It is an easy way for teachers to share daily classroom events with parents (thereby supporting one of our school's LIP goals - yea!). Plus, it takes very little time and effort on your part once you have your blog set up.

Unlike a blog, a website is slightly more static, or unchanging. You can add messages, links, etc. but they will remain on the "page" to which you save them (rather than automatically displaying first on your main page). Parents and students have to navigate your website to find the desired information. This makes it an appealing choice if your aim is to share links to other websites, newsletters, etc. that you would like easily accessible all year. It requires little maintenance once it is created. Your parents/students will be able to view its contents, but will not be able to comment on them or reply back to you unless they contact you via email (you may choose to add a link to your website for this purpose).

Please take a few minutes to view a few websites and blogs that have been created by other teachers at our school. If you'd like to create one of your own, possible applications for this can be found under the "Tech Tools" link.

About Me

My photo
Hello! I am currently in my ninth year of teaching and am excited to be teaching Grade Six once again! I taught Grade Three for five years, went on maternity leave for a year, then co-taught for a year in Grades Four to Six (half-time). I was ready for a change, so I moved to teaching Grade Six full-time and then went on another maternity leave. I came back for good good and am thrilled to be able to continue my educational journey in Grade Six! Please feel free to drop by our classroom anytime and visit our blog often for information and updates!
